Hi Can anyone advise or help...? I own a 2002 ML 270 CDI.

Every now and again when ive stopped in traffic I can smell diesel slightly coming through I think is the air vents,
Some body I mentioned this to has said it may what is called Black death..? can anyone advise me on what this could be and what I need to do to rectify the problem before something nasty happens and my wallet takes a beating..

black death is injector seals gone and leaves a black sludge /deposits all over your cylinder head ..and fumes can enter the cabin
just remove your top engine covers and have a look ;) ;)

:D Hi I had the same problem with my E class, I think it is quite common on high mileage motors. If you are lucky and catch it early enough you may get away with new injector seals otherwise its new injector/s im afraid hope that helps regards Lou :D
